About Submissions
Here at The Generous Kind, we seek to create space for vulnerable, honest stories so that humans like us can feel seen, heard, and valued. One of the avenues for this is The Story Space, a public gallery of truth telling here on our website. If you have a story to share, we would love to hear from you. All we ask is that the story be true, and yours to tell.
Each week on Tuesdays we will feature a new story on the homepage, and all accepted pieces will be uploaded and archived by author and topic in The Story Space.
Some guidelines for submissions:
The Generous Kind features stories that are first person and roughly 500-1,500 words.
Stories should be clear of spelling and grammatical errors. We will make edits before publishing if needed. We’ll reach out via email and the author is responsible for timely revisions.
Authors maintain copyright and ownership of the content, and are free to publish it elsewhere. If your piece was originally published on The Generous Kind, we ask that when possible you include a note stating that it appeared here first.
At this point, we do accept previously published or archived content, and we ask that you let us know this detail upon submission. It is up to the author to ensure we have the information for proper credit of where the story was originally published.
We exist to make space for voices of all kinds to be heard. We are not able to pay for essays at this time.
Submit your writing via the button on this page and include the following:
Paste the text of your piece into the body of the email. No attachments or links will ever be opened.
Include your name and contact info with your submission.
Provide a 2-3 sentence bio which would accompany your piece. Feel free to include a link to where readers can enjoy more of your work. We’re happy to point our readers to you.
If your essay has been previously published, let us know.
Please allow 3-4 weeks to hear back regarding your submission.
